A Sporting Heritage
Long recognised as a gateway to all kinds of outdoor activity, Christchurch really shines as a sporting community. The area's natural features have made this inevitable: temperate climate, wide open spaces and huge geographical variation so close to the city. Mountains to climb or ski over; rivers, lakes and harbours to sail or canoe upon; uncrowded stretches of road to run or pedal along and unbounded enthusiasm are all found here, providing conditions to satisfy the needs of any event.
Christchurch has access to professionally managed international standard facilities, many of them brand new and purpose-built, minutes away from the centre of a charming and sophisticated city. Participants have the chance to work to the limit, and afterwards, be replenished and pampered in top quality accommodation and relish fine food in one of the world's least polluted countries.
Christchurch has much experience in hosting international sporting events. There have been numerous test series catering to large crowds and television needs, and many international events.

All of the above indicates that Christchurch has developed a large and experienced workforce that is both excited and capable of taking on the challenges of hosting international sporting events. Christchurch City Council is very proactive in providing an early indication of support and desire to host major international sporting events in Christchurch.
